Melusine Fairytale Sterling Silver Ring-Made to Order

Mélusine or Melusine or Melusina is a figure of European folklore, a female spirit of fresh water in a holy well or river. She is usually depicted as a woman who is a serpent or fish from the waist down. She is also sometimes illustrated with wings, two tails, or both.

Melusine serves as a bridge between the visible and invisible, between the explicable and the inexplicable, between immortality and humanity, and between the sacred and the profane.

There are a few versions of this tale, this is one version.......

The intriguing story tells or the beautiful Mélusine, the result of the marriage of the King of Scotland and his fairy wife. In her youth Mélusine entombed her father in a mountain leaving her mother heartbroken. The deed displeased her mother and as punishment Mélusine was condemned to transform into a serpent from the waist down every Saturday.

This ring is created using a die striking technique. Die striking is a centuries-old technique of making jewelry. Highly demanding in terms of jeweler’s skill and expertise, this technique is not favorable for the mass production, which has brought it on the verge of extinction. For small batch jewelers like myself, I am able to create beautiful, one of a kind pieces.
